Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of inhibition of Marrubium astranicumleaves extract on the corrosion of carbon steel in hydrochloric acid solution by using weightloss and tafel polarization methods. Inhibition was found to increase with increasingconcentration of the leaves extract. The inhibition efficiency of this extract at an optimumconcentration of 100 mg L-1 was 99.9 %. The effect of inhibitor concentration, immersiontime and temperature on the corrosion behavior of carbon steel in 1 M HCl was also studied. The inhibition was assumed to occur via adsorption of the inhibitor molecules on the metalsurface. The adsorption of the extract on the carbon steel surface obeys the Langmuiradsorption isotherm. The results obtained show that the leave extract of plant could serve asan effective green inhibitor of the corrosion of carbon steel in hydrochloric acid.

Malvasylvestris Flower Extracts as Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in HCl Solution

In this study, Malvasylvestris flower extract (MFE) was used as a corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1 M HCl solution. Malvasylvestris extract was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with a mass spectrometry detector (GC-MS). Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies revealed that the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing MFE concent...

Aqueous Extracts of Santolina Pectinata lag., Aerial Parts as Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Mild Steel in 1.0 M HCl

The protective effect of the aqueous extracts of Santolina pectinata (Lag.) aerial parts (Odorized aqueous extract (AE1) and Deodorized aqueous extract (AE2)) on the corrosion of mild steel (MS) in 1M HCl solution were tested by the weight loss (WL) analysis, potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. The inhibition efficiency (%IE) is highly ra...

Effect of Dates Extracts as Environmentally Friendly Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in 1M HCl Solution

Inhibitory effect of extracts from three date varieties namely khalt (kha), Lassiane (La) and Tadmamt (Td)), and the mixture of date varieties as environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1M HCl is studied by means of electrochemical tests such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and Tafel polarization. It's been obtained that in 1.0 M HCl solution the date e...

Mentha spicata L. Extract as a Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in HCl Solution

The effect of Mentha spicata L. extract on the corrosion behaviour of carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl solution was investigated using polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and electrochemical noise (EN) techniques. The solution containing 250 ppm of the ethanolic solution of extract showed the highest inhibition efficiency (IE). The effect of temperature on the rate of corrosion ...
